Hi y’all! I’m here to introduce myself as a new member!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am not new to chickens as I’ve had them off and on my entire life. I am, however, newer to raising quail as game birds for release into the wild.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We likely have over 100 chickens. I live on a farm with my bf and his parents. We live in one side and they live on the other. Most of the chickens are on their side of the farm.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have some Long Island red, a bunch of silkies, and a bunch of others I’m not entirely sure of their breeds. One of his older sisters breeds and shows chickens. We raise quail once per year, this being our 3rd year, for release into the wild.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Insect control, eggs, and humor
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Woodworking, painting, and creative/whimsical gardens
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We farm in northwest Iowa, we have 3 Siberian huskies, and our farm also has cattle, horses, ducks, turkeys, goats, and pheasants
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Ive known about BYC for about 5 years through a Google search and joined the Facebook group. I haven’t been on Facebook a lot the last year or two. I wanted to join this community because there is always someone who has done the thing before you and has answers to things that may not be common.
