We are from Rensselaer County, our chickens did fine last week with the cold, -18 here. We keep them locked in the coop till midday and opened the pop door. One of them came out for about 2.5seconds and ran straight back in. None came out after that so we closed the door back up, was fairly windy.

Not sure where you are located in Northern NY but, there is a chicken swap in this area in the spring. Let me know if you are interested, I can send you the website.

from Ohio. So glad you joined. Good advice given. Only get a roo if you like the sound of crowing any time day or night and if you don't have neighbors that might have a problem with them. Other than that, roos are
are great to have around.
