Hi everyone, love the site I'm not new to raising chickens, but haven't had any for several years. My oldest daughter and I inherited a piece of property jointly and we are living on it now. we decided to create a small critter menagerie, the property is just a little over an acre so everything is going to have to be small. We're starting out with chickens, just 6, which we are purchasing this week at a farm store. We decided to start with baby chicks instead of buying ones already laying. My daughter's grandson/ my great-grandson is with us 90% of the time and we want to teach him the love of raising and loving little critters, he's 5 and loves being outside. Of course they will be mostly pets with a side benefit of giving us a few eggs, but that will be just fine. Later, in the near future, we plan to get 2 pigmy goats, a pair of ducks, and a pair of rabbits. which will all benefit our garden also. Also I recently saw a video about a huge chicken called a Brahma breed and fell in love at first sight, If anyone has information on how to acquire baby chicks it would be appreciated. That's it for now , going to really enjoy being on the site

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
