Hi there and welcome to BYC!

Welcome! PR should be a great place to have chickens. What kinds of predators do you have to worry about?

This is a guaraguao, but not to worry about because they avoid the presence of people.

Hello from SLC! Puerto Rico, awesome! Very pretty place. Good luck with your chickens!

You may find mice or a bird similar to a small eagle called guaraguao, but not a big deal. I think the same chickens of a flock are more predators or dangerous than a mice or a guaraguao if you don't manage the flock well.

Thank you!

No stray dogs or cats? No big snakes or lizzards? No big birds that hunt? No crummy neighbors who will take your birds?

You are right. When chickens are awake, they are pretty dangerous to very small animals.

Yes, for sure if you or your neighbors have a dog or a cat will be predators for your chickens. But beyond that there are not big snakes, lizzards, raccons or birds that hunt except for mice or guaraguao (a kind of hawk). Also, in Puerto Rico is normal to see chickens in any backyard because there are not regulatory laws that limits the number of chickens either in a house's backyard or neighborhood. A crummy neighbors can be everywhere but it's not typical.

So ... pretty much the same as here with the exception of regulations. I was hoping for chicken eating banana spiders, at least.
