I've raised egg chickens fairly successfully for three years. I have 19 hens and am going to start raising broilers, so may have lots of stupid questions (and maybe a little anxiety).

We have a large garden, raised a couple of hogs last year, and are trying to become as self-sufficient as possible. My husband may be forced to retire from his job, and our three kids (dd,11 and twin ds, 7) will probably still need to eat.

I'm looking forward to roaming the forum and getting to know you.

There are no stupid questions - just people wanting to further their knowledge. The Learning center is a great place to start. To meet others in your locale go to "where am I, where are you," tab in the social forum. You can locate and post on your state thread.

It is natural to be nervous about many things in life. Even after you have figured it all out!

You might like to stop by our Meat Birds forums for more tips on raising Meaties....

Good luck in your new adventures and welcome to BYC!

I will say that the size of this board is amazing. The amount of information available is appreciated, and I love reading about everyone's experiences. Knowing I'm not the only newbie here is comforting, too. Thank you all for welcoming me here.
