We've been planning our flock since last summer, but had to get the organic garden fenced in and started last year. Finally finished the henhouse and got our flock last week. Local farmer in Plum who breeds chickens. We got 3 Black Copper Marans and 3 Buff somethings. He kept going on about the color of the Marans eggs, I kept saying I didn't care about the color of the eggs, just wanted nice productive layers. Now I know what I got and can't wait to get the deep brown eggs he showed me!! Anyway, we are having a bunch of fun with the 9 week olds and look forward to eggs later this year. I'll post pictures of our really lovely henhouse later (converted a truely beautiful girl's playhouse my engineer/designer husband built some years ago!)
