I have chickens that are about 1-2 years old and 13 that will be 4 months old the end of August. I have been raising the chicks in a been next to the older birds so that they get to know each other. When would be a good time to take the gate down and put them together. I almost forgot I also have one very large Turnkey Roster named Henry. is there anything I need to do to protect the Young chickes when I put them together.

! Great to have you here! On introducing the young birds to the established ones, I would advise letting them see and get to know each other on opposite sides of a fence for a couple of days and when you put them together, do so at dark so the older hens can't beat up the newbies. The next morning get out there early (at daybreak) for the same reason. Then make sure they have plenty of room to establish pecking order. If you see one getting singled out and abused (a peck or two when one gets too close to an old hen is not abuse), separate this one and repeat the procedure a few days later with this bird. Good luck to you!!
