Hello!

I've been a member for a while, trying to prepare for getting chickens. We got our first
babies today! yay! We got one buff orpington and one gold laced wyandotte, both 10 weeks
old. The buff is named "Minnie" and the wyandotte, "Lu Lu" after one of my friends LOL.
Minnie is my daughter's chicken, given to her by a friend for her 7th birthday. She had her
heart set on that particular kind, so I'm very glad we found one today. I will be adding at
least one more, a jubilee orpington. Anyway, just wanted to say "hi!" I will probably have
lots of dumb newbie questions in the near future =)

I live in Fremont, CA and also have 2 dogs and a hubby. The hubby was not wild about
getting chickens, but guess who was the last one to stop watching them this evening?
Yes!

Thanks!

Molly

I'm not surprised about hubby's change of attitude. Chicks can melt the toughest hearts, thank goodness.

No dumb questions here, all of us were newbies at some point. People who ask questions - want to learn - there is nothing dumb about that. No one here will ever tell you that you have too many chickens either. Be forewarned - we are all enablers here.

The Learning center is a great place to start, then branch out to forums that are of interest to you.

X2 the above! We were all new once and we love helping new chicken owners, so don't be shy to ask questions. I'd also recommend using the search function on site to look for information, especially if you are in a rush. Just type in keywords related to your query and have a look through the results. I've found loads of fantastic information and answers to my questions that way.

Welcome to BYC!

And congrats on your new chicks! Yes, lots of members here have hubby's that are not on board with our chicken adventures at first, but after a while, somehow their hearts to soften and many times they will claim the flock as their own!!

Nope, no questions are dumb here....we all started somewhere and many of us came to BYC because we also needed to learn.

Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations and good luck with your new chicks!

Everyone is so nice here!! Thanks =) Minnie II and Lu Lu are settling in nicely, eating, drinking, napping,
peeping, and pooping. They have discovered the joys of mealworms. They don't go in the coop by themselves at
night, so I have been putting them there. That is so funny about all the hubbies. Mine is still visiting them several
times a day and now he is looking stuff up on the internet and suggesting what would be best for them he he!

One of our chickens passed away last night =(( I made a vet appt yesterday because we noticed she was lethargic
and had a little trouble breathing. She was eating and drinking last night! Oh dear, what to tell my 7 year old..... and
what to do next?!?!?

I'm so sorry to hear that! I think you should finding out what caused her death. If it was a disease it would be good to know, so you can treat the rest of the flock. Ask your vet if he/she can help you with that?
