Just figured I'd do the main question template then add in whatever I want to after
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? My daughters and I have had chickens for about 10 years, on and off. More when the girls were showing in 4h/FFA. We've hatched eggs a couple of time, and have raised chicks several times.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Currently we have about 13 in our egg/bugging flock that free range on our small farm in AZ. a variety of breeds, most from a flock we purchased when the owner was moving.
(3) What breeds do you have? variety, but there are some black copper marans hens, barred rock, silver spangled Hamburgs, exchequer leghorns, easter eggers and a very silly Salmon Faverolle. These girls lay eggs for us, and help keep the flies and bugs down in the yard and horse pasture
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I enjoy watching them, most of them aren't tame, but are not too shy either. I love pretty birds running around. I also LOVE the fly control!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? horseback riding, reading, video games, and gardening
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. at the house right now we have myself, my partner, and our daughter (18). My oldest daughter moved back to CA to go to school and has stayed there. I'm a data analyst for a medical software company, and have worked in healthcare for about 25 years. I am also, if I get brave, beginning to breed Irish Sport Horses on a very small scale.
ANimals - we have 6 horses, 6 dogs, two cats, 2 ferrets and a fish.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I think I joined once a long time ago, or at least read some articles back when my kids were showing. Now that we're wnting to start again, I figured I'd rather get information from here than random hatchery pages.
