I've been dreaming about getting chickens in the past 7 years and finally I was able to get chicks little over 7 weeks ago. First, I was planning to get 6 chicks (2 Black Australorp, 2 Barred Rock, and 2 Golden Comet) and then I thought 6 hens won't be able to provide enough eggs. So, I thought 10 should be enough. I know some chicks might not make it to adult so I decided to get 12. Then, I thougt it is good to have a rooster to protect hens so I decided to get 13. At the end, hatchery gave me 3 extra and all of them survived.

It is really nice to have community such as BYC and looking forward to learning more about chickens.

Chicken math is really working even before I got chickens :lau
My husband is worried about me getting more chickens.

Just like dogs and any other animals, each chicks have their own personality and it is fun to watch them. One of the australorp always strech one leg out when she is relaxed on the floor. When I first saw her like that, I thought she injured her leg somehow and I panicked. She got up right away when she saw me with food in my hand.
One of my dogs is craziy about food. I think all he can think about is food so it is really easy to find out when he is not feeling well. Just show him any food or even ice cube and soon I know how he is feeling. I found out chickens are the same way. They are really food driven.

I don't know if I'm weired but I love chicken's fluffy butt. They are so cute.
