Woke up this morning one of the 4 hens i have was fine last night, was just laying on ground with the other 3 standing over her. I picked her up she is very weak, will not hold her head up,will not eat or drink, My daughter an i have been opening her mouth to give water she will swallow but refuse to open her mouth, her poo is very water was yellow now turned to green, we bought her some nutri-drench an Duramycin-10 an gave her some spicach baby food, all with small syringe, she only takes 5 or 6 steps an lays back down. Please if any one can help I would greatly appericate it. They other three seem to be doing fine they are 3 months old an have been very happy an healthy, Thank you

Welcome to BYC!

I am very sorry about your baby. I don't know what is wrong with her. You will want to post this in our emergency section and hopefully someone there can help her...

I hope you can get her back to health soon.

With diarrhea, lethargy, not eating/drinking, I would suspect coccidiosis, even at 3 months of age. I have had to treat at that age before. I give Corid 9.6% liquid, 9.5 ml per gallon of drinking water as the sole drinking water for all the chickens who have been exposed to the poo of the sick one, for 5 days.

I don't administer vitamins at this time, as it is a thiamine blocker. I see improvement within 24 hours. Corid doesn't treat all the strains of coccidiosis, but I have always found it to work for my flock.

You will likely have to dribble alongside the beak with a syringe, the medicated water, as she isn't drinking.

Coccidiosis can kill within 24 hours.

Of course it can be from some other cause, such as infection requiring antibiotics, but this is what I have seen with my own flock and what has worked.

If you note paralysis at all then I would not be thinking coccidiosis most likely.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your chick, you've gotten some good advice and links above, hope she recovers.

Thank you for the reply she could not even walk, just before we came in she was walking but it was like very unfocussed an very weak steps, kind of like she was. Blind .poo is very watery I will be going back to tractor supply or some where to get more meds, she is laying now with her head down,

Another thing to watch out for is Mareks. Hopefully it is not that, though. I have read there is a blood test for it, or it can be diagnosed by necropsy. However, I am still thinking coccidiosis and it never hurts to rule it out since it can make them deathly ill in no time.

As Daisy mentioned vitamins are good as well, since vitamin deficiencies are not pretty in chickens.

I would definitely do more nutri drench after Corid. Also it never hurts to feed scrambled/boiled eggs to boost them up.

Hopefully she will get better soon!!
