We are lucky that all our chickens and the rooster are very docile. I can go into the coop and pet them all or pick them up. Once in a while, if one isn't in the mood for human contact, she'll tell me by just moving away. I had no idea that chickens were like this and as a small child, I spent a lot of time on my grandparents farm where my grandmother raised tons of chickens.I certainly was never able to pick one of them up or pet them:)

I hope your quails born as soon as possible

Thank you but we still have to wait to get enough eggs to incubate. One or two a day just isn't enough. Thinking we'll try introducing 3 more females to their coup in a couple of weeks:)

Hello,
I am in Bakersfield also. We started our first flock this spring. Our Buff Orpington is looking like a roo and we cannot keep him if that is the case. He is very sweet and great with my kids. Just wondering if you are looking for a rooster if he does turn out to be a rooster.
Here he is....

Hello Penny Penny,
Thank you for offering your bo roo to me, but we do have

Hello Penny Penny,
Thank you for offering your bo roo to me, but we do have a Frizzle rooster who has his "harem" of 7 hens. I want a bo hen, bc I've heard they are very docile and good layers, but our coop doesn't have the capacity to handle 8 hens, so that will be a breed I'll have to wait for should for any reason our count declines. Right now we get 6 eggs daily so someone isn't producing & it's hard to figure out which one it is. If we do, she will have to go in our freezer, & will be replaced with a bo pullet. Just curious, I'm in the NW. What area are you in? I've met a few people at TSC. Welcome to the group. I've gained so much knowledge here already as a new member. We raise quail, ducks & rabbits too.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

So glad you could join our community!

Did you find our quail section? :) Lots of quail keepers there. I keep Bobwhites as well as chickens. Fun little birds to keep, quail are.

Make yourself at home here and ask any questions you may have. Welcome to our roost!
Thanks. I have actually been here since this past Spring. I think I am on the quail forum but not sure. I know I'm on the chicken, duck, granny gone and done it, old folks and NFC b-day forums, oh and meal worm forum too. I will have to check the quail forum to see and if not I will join you all there also

We raise Coutinix quail- brown ones and white ones-for both eggs and meat. I love, love, love my quail. We currently have 2 brooders going with quail peeps. 14 in the oldest batch and 12 in the last one.
