It's not official yet, but I should get permission from the City Manager next week to have up to 3 hens in my large backyard here in Bell County, TX (between Waco and Austin).
I saw the episode on BYC on Central Texas Gardener a couple of weeks ago and was hooked! I've always wanted to have a few chickens (heck, I want the whole farm, but chickens will do for now. lol) and had no idea I might be able to.
The ordinance here is 250 ft from your neighbor. I'm about 120ft from my two closest neighbors and there's a clause saying that the City Mgr. can permit up to 75 feet, so I asked. I used links to the Central TX Gardener and a Fox News clip out of Austin showing BYCs.
I heard back today from a couple of neighbors that a Police Officer showed up at their doors yesterday. Thank God I'd already mentioned it to them and they knew it was me or they would have said no, thinking roosters and what not.
So yea! I'm excited to go to the Coop Tour in Austin in April but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to wait that long to get my chicks! lol.

Hoping to round up others in this town to get the ordinance changed. 250 ft is ridiculous.

Peace,
Jean
