I am a new member in Unionville, Pennsylvania. I've had backyard chickens strictly as pets for 20+ years. On a small parcel of land, I have four horses, vast numbers of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys (used to do fancy pigeons until visitation by the Red-Tails), three dogs, one cat. Children have flown the coop. Husband doesn't do birds but has been an indulgent bystander for years - loves to feed the geese old lettuce from the back of the fridge.
