New to BYC

After lots of lurking, I've finally joined BYC!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I grew up with chickens, so had them nearly 20 years, on our family's ranch. Now, I have coturnix quail!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I hatched 5 beautiful quails, one recently passed from organ malformation, so I just have 4....3 hens and 1 roo.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Coturnix

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I love how small, beautiful and wild my quails are. They look like little hawks. And i love their beautiful speckly eggs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I'm an artist. I teach. I like to fart around in my garden. I'm saving to buy my own land and build a home off grid.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a cockatiel who loves hanging out with my quail. A dog who is protective of all her birbs, a tropical aquarium, and a very old rescued house bunny who's favorite pasttime is destroying things.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I found Byc on Google search

Welcome. I think it is awesome that the dog is protective of the birds. I cannot trust my dog.

She's the best best girl. When I got her, I just had my rabbit at the time, and the first day she was home, they were nose to nose. She copied him a lot as a puppy so I like to say she's more rabbit than dog. Shes been the best girl since day 1! I don't think I could ever get another dog after her

Thanks! I have soo many pics of my pets, theyre my whole life. I'm currently building a really cool enclosure for my quail, right now they live inside...honestly if I had more room they'd just live inside but id like to at least build a beautiful space with plants grasses for them to play and scratch in.
My hens are Cleo, Cora and Peachy.
My roo is Hopper
My deceased quail, who was special needs, was named Cozy. That bird changed my life in so many ways. He passed about 2 weeks ago and I still cry about him. He is my profile pic.
I'm a sculptor and I love sculpting birds, I'll share some pics here!
