Hello all!

I'm new to everything chickens, but have done a ton of research. My boyfriend and I will be moving soon into an area that will finally allow me to keep chickens. I plan on keeping Orpingtons, Marans, EEs, Golden buff, Welsummer, and Faverolle. I'd love to keep Ameraucana or Auraucana, but they're pretty expensive from hatcheries. I'll be waiting to get the chicks until I'm completely prepared for them.

I've been wanting to raise chickens for the last year and a half now. I've actually been caring for a neighbors chickens while she's out of town. I get paid in eggs. I've noticed that this site is just a little hard to navigate, but I'll get the hang of it.

We won't be moving for another few months. When we do get all moved and settled, I'll keep the brooder in the basement with all the trimmings. (heat lamp, thermometer, etc.), but I have to work on the floor and walls of the 'coop' and get some roosts in there too. I can wait to build the next boxes.

I am computer impaired, despite everyone trying to coach me. The easiest method for me has been to use the search box ie, you want to check out predator threads, just put that in the search box and it will come up. OR put your state in the box and you can post and ask other Kansas natives for advice on breeds that do best, etc.
