Hi, I am a first time chicken owner. In fact until now I have always been scared of chickens.. silly I know. This summer I decided to conquer my fear. I have 4 hens 3 are almost 6 months old and my one layer is of unknown age as we rescued her. She was a stray who was in horrible condition when we found her but as friendly as a puppy. So far everyone is health and happy and since I got them as chicks I think I'm over my fear... mostly :)

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. My wife is terrified of chickens - that's why I have a flock

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

All the best

Thank you, I joined because I have already found this site very informative as a non member so I figured I should become a member since I keep ending up here. :)

I think that's the way most of us end up as members - almost half a million of us!

G’Day from down under tcorwin Welcome!

I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

You aren't the only one that started off as being nervous around chickens, I was that way when I was a kid. But chickens have a way of growing on you and before you know it, you'll have 100's of pictures of yours and telling everyone that listens about their latest antics. Without even planning on it, you'll be known as the Crazy Chicken Lady among your friends
