Hello all!

I am new to chickens, though we raised them along with pigs when I was younger. I am excited to start my homesteading journey by expanding into chicken raising!! I am so excited for the chicken selections I have made and the coop I have built! (I may become one of those crazy chicken ladies whose chicken coop is better decorated than their house....maybe..)

I cannot wait to learn loads about chickens from everyone here!!

Hello and welcome to BYC and congrats on your impending flock.

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - Find Your State Thread

Best wishes

I have black australorp chicks and my friend raises buff wyandottes and gave me some fertilized eggs to hatch with my kids as a homeschool project!! I REALLY want light sussex chicks or chickens but am having a hard time finding anything other than speckled. thus far I like the idea of my Black and Tan flock!

Hello! and Welcome to BYC!! The folks here are great!!! I learned some much from the other chicken keepers here when I first started, still learning in fact. I have some facebook groups that are chicken related, but by far the most help comes from those here at BYC. congrats on your chickens, and welcome to the wild world of chicken keeping. It is indeed the most enjoyable hobby I have ever had.
