(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New to this site and don't currently have any chickens. We are researching what it takes to raise baby chicks for pets and get the benefit of fresh eggs
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
none yet
; hoping to get 4-6 initially
(3) What breeds do you have?
open to suggestions as what are the first for newbies; looking for hardy to temperature (hot and cold) so we don't need to heat the coop. Also want chicks that produce a lot of eggs (one plus per day per chick), would love colorful eggs.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Love spending time outside in our garden and love all animals
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, cooking, knitting, crafts, reading
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have one 7 year old miniature labradoodle and a 2 year old indoors cat. Two teenagers. Both my husband I work from home and enjoy the outdoors.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I asked a friend for a resource that she uses for gaining information on raising chicks and she said this was the best. Looking forward to learning more and to owning some baby chicks

I have a purebred flock that I cross with each other to get unique barnyard chicks.
