Thank you for the warning, but so far after two months there hasn't been a incident. Lana is very interested in a concerned manner about the pullets. she will whimper with concern if she hears anything that concerns the hens and pullets. We may have broke her of the habit of trying to inspect the coop. Our white Silkie (Cottonball) started an attack on the pullets. Cb is the dominant hen, Lana leapt in and separated the birds giving the pullets time to retreat to their coop. Just using her body as a shield, and no mouth actions. B
oth dogs prefer to stay inside the house, Cavaliers are people dogs, Lana will follow me out to the backyard when I am doing things with the chickens but will mainly sit on the bench. The first four chickens accept her grudgingly, but the pullets don't mind her at all. In some ways I think she wants to mother the pullets.
Funny thing is with our pecking order it is The white Silkie, followed by the black Silkie then the OEGB. Our Polish doesn't fit into the pecking order, she remains aloof of it. Cb doesn't even try to boss her at all, especially that Una is so much larger than she is.
