Hello all,
My name is Catherine and I live in Willis, TX just north of Houston. I am considering starting a small egg laying flock in the spring and have been researching everything I can get my hands on for the past two weeks. There is just ONE thing that is holding me back. Cockroaches in the coop. I have a neighbor that raises chickens and everytime I go to her house to help her collect eggs, when we open the nesting boxes these huge black roaches scatter everywhere.
If there is ONE thing on this planet I cannot stand it is Cockroaches. She tells me that they are very common in chicken coops and I will have to just learn to deal with it if I want chickens.
It is seriously the only thing that is making me think raising chickens would be something I would want to do.
Is it normal to have roaches in your chicken coop? If so is there ANY way possible to keep them out??
Thanks and I hope to learn a lot from you guys!
