Just following the new member instructions
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
First got chickens when I was.... 6 maybe? I was part of the younger section of 4-H when we first got chickens if I remember right. Us kids stayed in 4-H for a while, about 6 years give or take, before we wanted to do other school activities and parents jobs demanded more of their time. Because everyone was so busy, we ended up selling our chickens and most of the equipment we had. Fast forward to February of 2019, and I manage to get things set up again to have chickens.
Missed the little buggers
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Until Feb 26th, we had 10 chicks, 6 of whom were ready to go out into the adult pen as long as they had some extra warmth. Just my luck that the garage we had converted in the back end into a coop went up in flames that afternoon and burnt to the ground with my 6 older chicks in it.
The next day, I picked up 2 extra chicks when I went to pick up the BCM roo chick I ordered weeks prior. So as of right now we have 7 chicks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
3 Silkies, 1 Showgirl, 1 BCM roo,1 Easter Egger, and 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Eggs, cute birds, and meat.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I play video games, read, and watch streams on twitch. I've also recently picked up streaming the security camera feed of my chicks on twitch, but I don't know if that's something I'll stick with.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I currently live at home with my two parents, my older brother, and his girlfriend. We all have a dog, and we each have a cat. Except for my brother. He shares a cat with his girl friend. It's a good thing we live out in the country! XD
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was doing some research about hatching silkie eggs. I had bought silkie eggs to hatch in early February and had heard they're notoriously difficult to hatch. From then on, when I had chicken questions (since its been 10 years roughly since we had them, you tend to forget things or new better ways of doing things pop up) I found myself coming here often to get my questions answered.
