New member intro zombie threads

This might only be on my desktop, not on mobile, but I can see right here if the thread is old or not.

I do agree that maybe threads should be locked after a time. Maybe the member should get a message reminding them how to start a thread just to make sure they know they haven't been banned?

I agree, and that's because they aren't actually reading it. Maybe they are doing it just to get their posting number up? I have learned to check that the newbie welcome thread was just posted for that day.
Most of the welcome committee realizes that a thread is Zombie. Some don't read, that's obvious. But with Mr. Porky's (;)) suggestion, the newbies who haven't quite figured out all the ins and outs of the site wouldn't be able to resurrect it in the first place.

True, but newbies don't realize what that means when they reply to the zombie thread.

ETA: The rest of us replying can always blame our actions on caffeine deprivation!

I believe that I am not alone in noticing an increasing number of zombie threads being “resurrected” recently. As a regular greeter, I do not always look at the date of the OP’s thread, but I do find it helpful when other members mention that a new post has occurred on a thread started a significant period of time ago.

I wonder if it would be considered appropriate to automatically lock a New Members thread after a set period of time - e.g. 1 or 2 weeks? It would be helpful to those of us that greet on a regular basis.
Dangit, I thought this was going to be about new members who are into zombies.

Every now and then I like to revive my intro thread, so I don't like the idea of locking old intros. How about creating a sub-forum called "Archived Intros" or something? Then move older intros to it.
Or, as in your case, can the OP request it be unlocked? I think no matter the forum a thread gets put in, the newbies could resurrect it when they find it in a forum search.
