New member intro zombie threads

This might only be on my desktop, not on mobile, but I can see right here if the thread is old or not.

I do agree that the threads should be locked after a time. Maybe the member should get a message reminding them how to start a thread just to make sure they know they haven't been banned?

I do not agree...I do not think a thread should be locked just because it is old/older.

I'm not sure why they would think they have been banned, we don't just randomly ban people, and if someone does get banned, they are made aware of it when they visit the site. I also don't think we should automatically lock old threads just because they are old. If you see an ancient thread get bumped for no reason, just report it, like @Yorkshire Coop said.

Great discussion everyone!

I love that our community is so welcoming and friendly that this is even a topic that has come up! :)

In general we like to have as much of a "hands off" approach as possible, especially when it comes to how old threads are handled.

We know that sometimes an old thread can be "resurrected" and sometimes it's maybe not for an appropriate reason and might even be annoying.

That said, we've found that over time these things sort themselves out very naturally where a thread that is resurrected will quickly re-die (is that even a thing? Maybe unressurect?) if it's not something that peeps are interested in.

So, I think the best solution is a combo of "letting stuff happen naturally) with the occasional "report to moderators" action for egregious examples.

Another thought about those threads...ignore them and they will fall down the page. When you post "Zombie" on it, guess what? It bumps it right back to the top.
I fundamentally disagree - by doing posting "Zombie thread" we are simply alerting fellow greeters not to waste their time / efforts. I don't need to "guess what" - I need to inform my fellow greeters.

You guys are all about reading the introduction and other posts and stuff. I don't see why you can't just try to start making a habit of checking the date on top of the post

It's one of the first things displayed when a thread is opened.
I agree with @casportpony, I don't think the old threads should be locked.

It is funny to see them pop up again sometimes. I think I saw Drumstick diva's introduction thread pop up a while back, that was pretty interesting.

Goodluck with your zombie problem greeters. I think it could be worked around without any modifications to the forums needed. Just start checking dates so you get into the habit of doing so.

Also, zombies comeback to life.:eek: I've seen it many times.

I observe input (including "likes") from members that do not regularly greet news members. Maybe those members should take it upon themselves to greet new members for the next 3-4 months  Input is always valuable, but particularly when its based on experience :)
