Hi all! My name is Robin. My husband and I bought an 8 acre farm in the city last year. We were going to do ducks (khaki campbell), but when we went to get them at the feed store, they were gone. They had Isa Browns so we got the required 6. They were 2 weeks old and we've had them for the past week. So, to get started, I'm just going to answer the questions:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes we are new to chickens. I've never had them, but my grandfather did when I was a kid. My husband's grandmother had them when he was a kid. Other than books and what I've read on this site, we know nothing.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We have 6

(3) What breeds do you have? Isa Brown

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I did a google search about a year ago and have been reading the site since. More so in the last 3-4 months.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Sewing, reading, gardening, and obviously reading the forums on BYC.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I are both retired, we have 4 daughters, 7 grandchildren (with one on the way, due in September), 3 dogs: toy poodle (10 years old), pyrenean shepherd (7 years old) and a yorkie (5 years old).

Welcome & Congratulations!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

You are no longer retired.

You are now official chicken farmers. They will slowly begin to take
more and more of your time.

Welcome to your new life.
