My husband and I are new to chickens. We got our first chicks 5 months ago.

We have a flock of 20, 19 girls and 1 roo. We started getting eggs a few weeks ago from some of our 5 month old chicks, which I'm quite excited about.

8 Buff Orpingtons
4 Black Australorps
2 Golden Laced Wyandotte
5 Blue Cochins
1 Golden Laced Wyandotte Rooster

I found Backyard Chickens while I was doing research online.

I like to garden, build, weld, cook, bake and various arts and crafts.

I'm married. We have a 3 year old dog (Retriever) and a 5 month old cat. We've trained our dog to leave the chickens alone. Our cat however is still learning but our little Roo is helping in that area. Fortunately for the cat, our roo has gotten his spurs yet.

:welcome @eiani, so glad you joined us.
"I like to garden, build, weld, cook, bake and various arts and crafts. " Okay, gonna state up front I'm jealous. If only i had ONE of those talents, lol. You've got quite a mixture of girls in your flock and I love it. The cat will get the message, lol....mine did. Thanks for joining us and yes, tons of information here but even better there are incredible people on here that have the patience and take the time to answer all of our questions and if you ever have a situation or emergency with a chicken....this is the place to come. So many people with years of experience to help your chicken. Welcome, welcome! :love

:welcome:weeWelcome to Backyard Chickens! I'm sure BYC will be very good for you. Your cat will get used to them, hopefully before the rooster grows in the pool. Mine thinks she is half chicken.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I am just a amateur builder and welder who is fortunate enough to know people with experience and a super supportive husband.

Well I actually took a welding class (adult continuing education class). Had the best looking weld in the class, according to the teacher, however.....the welds held sometimes and sometimes not. I wouldn't trust my own welding skills to hold a gate up, lol. You may be "just an amateur builder and welder" but with each project you get further away from "just an amateur). Still impressed! :highfive:
