Hi everyone! We are Christopher & Catie, new to backyard chicken ownership. Our chicks are almost 2 weeks old now. It's been a learning experience for sure! Lost a few, but I think we are doing good with the 10 we have left! We ordered Wyandottes. We will post photos of the flock and coop soon. Just finished the coop, the girls/boys are in our guest bathroom currently. So many of them seemed so weak that I (Catie) read up lots of the posts here and other places and decided to give them scramble eggs. I mixed it with the vitamin water and chick-starter food. They LOVED it. Really seemed to perk them up. The other posts about gasping for air helped as well. That is what the ones we lost were doing. So I have added probiotic and antibiotic to their water so we don't get a virus running through all of them. As well as a little garlic clove. I'm all about natural remedies, except right now I am really scared they were all going to come down with a respiratory virus. Been handling the crusty butts as well! LOL . Hopefully the probiotic will take care of that too!
Anyway, glad to be a member here! We would welcome any advice and tips too!!

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. A couple in particular you might find helpful at this stage are:
Topic/Question of the week - Brooding and supplementing heat for chicks
Topic of the Week - Raising Chicks

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your little ones, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!
