We have recently bought a rural property which included a rooster and 3 hens, and a muscovy duck. We’ve since got 5 more rescue hens a drake, and a duckling. I’ve always found BYC has been useful for any questions I’ve googled, so am finally joining!
My husband and I work during the week, and look forward to spending time at home with the animals on the weekend. I’m looking for ways I can stay home full time!
We also have two steer, two alpacas and a stray cat we’re trying to befriend!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!:welcome Glad you joined the flock! BYC is a very informative and fun site for people who love chickens, ducks, turkey, quail, etc.. You have some interesting animals! I hope and pray for you and your husband to get off of work more!:fl Your animals would like it too!;)

Hello, I live in Country Victoria, Australia, with my Husband, 3 Dalmatians and 4 cheeky chooks. I call them Chookens lol. They are my first chickens and I adore them so much. I decided to join Backyard chickens so I could learn more about them. Although I do love eating chicken, these girls and future girls will always be my pets. At the moment, one of my Barnevelders is the only one laying at them moment and she fluffs up her neck feathers when she sees me and makes loud clucking noises, I have no idea why? any idea's lol, Thank you so much for this site, I know it's going to be really helpful for me and my Darling chookens.

I answered that on another thread. Your hen may be going broody - is she sitting on any eggs? Broody hens are very protective of their eggs and will sit on them & hatch them. IF you don't have a rooster to fertilize the eggs, she will be wasting her time, they will never hatch.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive
