1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I've had a backyard dual purpose flock for a little over two years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
12 hens, 1 rooster and 50 x 3 week old broiler chicks
(3) What breeds do you have? Local breed (I'm South African
) - Potch Koekoeks (dual purpose) and Cobb cross broilers
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? The eggs are fantastic but nothing beats the entertainment - we call it "bosveld bioscope" roughly translates to bushveld tv.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I dunno that I'd call them hobbies but I grow our veg and fruit, I have diary goats, and I homestead. Honestly, there's no time for hobbies but I love what I do.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm married to the most amazing man (he made it possible for me to quit my job so I could pursue my dream), my granddaughters live with us and I homeschool them, I have 3 companions (some people call them dogs) and at 48 (I'm 51 now) I went from being a project manager for a construction company to being a full-time homesteader. I've never worked harder and I've never felt more alive.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found you guys while Googling for help when I started my journey and today there is a topic that's been sitting at the back of my mind for a couple of weeks, so basically answering a question I hadn't yet thought to ask ... So, I thought that's a sign to join up.
