Hello All,
looking forward to hear how others maintain their poultry.
We currently have 10 hens of mixed breeds and 3 outside ducks.
Also, a mallard hen that lives inside. She has a deformed leg. It was diagnosed early as a slipped tendon, possibly caused by an injury or nutrition imbalance.
She was treated by two vets, the first a 'farm vet, and the other an Avian Specialist,, only deals with birds of all types.
It was concluded after many trips for wrapping and weighting the leg, that we should put her down.
As you can see, we went against that advice. She has the full run of the house, along with 6 indoor cats. We have a fountain waterer they share, along with a separate large water bowl. Duckles swims in our large tub 2x daily. She likes to follow me from room to room as I do housework. We clean up her 'doodles' as she leaves them.
She has adopted a cat pad for resting, and plays with cat toys.
At night, she sleeps in a recliner in our room, which is lined with towels and disposable pads.
We have built a duck pen, with netting over the top, and a stock tank and elevated duck house, which the outdoor ducks use. Weather permiting, Duckles does get to go out, but during winter it's sometimes too much temperature variance from house to outside and back.
I know this has been a lengthy introduction and I apologize..
I would love to hear from others about their 'Kids' how they interact with them, house them, feed, etc
Thank you for letting me join the group!
