New member intro

Hi, this is my 2nd time raising chickens. In 1990 when our son was 8 we bought 7 Araucana chickens. Since 3 were roosters, we ate 2 roosters and raised the rest. They were good layers, except the rooster of course. We couldn't convince him to lay any eggs for us. Now I've bought 10 black Australorps and 5 of them we roosters! We ate three, gave away 1 and now have 1 rooster and 5 hens. They were hatched on the 17th of May and one of the hens laid her first egg this morning. A little small but good for her first effort! We're going to let them start sitting on the first clutch before we start collecting eggs to eat. I'm enjoying raising chickens again.
