Well I just built my first coop, got my first 15 chickens in it, all Barred Rock. Actually got some of the ideas for my coop from this site (google is so awesome) didn't realize there was so much interest in chickens. My son, who is 14, has a part time job at a feed and seed , came home one day and announced he'd like to get some chickens. Seemed like an interesting project, did a little research, put up a coop (which I would be scared to total how much it cost all said and done) ordered some chicks and we're in the Chicken buisness it would seem. I only intend to keep 1 rooster and four laying hens ( as soon as I can tell which is which, we'll be getting rid of some of the 15 total, we'll see how that goes, may later add another coop to raise meat birds in, we'll see, way too early to even think about expanding, lol. Anyway from Louisiana, love this site have found it very helpful in getting started.
