Hello there, here to introduce myself!
I've been keeping chickens off and on for about 15 years, but I am new to this chicken forum. I currently have 14 chickens and 4 ducks.
My flock is completely mixed with several different breeds, both bantam and standard sized chickens. The bantams consist of Japanese Bantams, silkies, a frizzle, and a buff brahma. The standards I have are a couple of olive eggers, Dominique, salmon faverolle, black autralorp, and a splash laced red wyandotte. This year, we even hatched out our own first batch of chicks (several Japanese bantam crosses).
While I do like getting fresh eggs, I keep chickens because it's fun, rewarding, and keeps me from getting bored. I especially like their excitement over treats (giving baby chicks live superworms never gets old!)
When I'm not out with the flock, I'm working at our local feed store, spending time with my dog and cat, writing, drawing, or reading. I have a corgi named Remy, who is the smartest, best boy, and grumpy old man of a cat named Aiko.
I found out about BYC through a chicken related websearch and finally decided to join, because chickens are taking over my life! I wanted to find a bigger, wider chicken community for advice, and even some buying, selling, and trading if possible.
Thank you for having me!
