Hello! I call myself the PlagChickenDoc because I am obsessed with plague doctors and chickens. I first became aware of how silly and adorable chickens are a few years ago when in this small town a rooster randomly appeared underneath the willow tree.

I recently moved and only one chicken I hatched was considered mine in ownership, and that is my Easter Egger rooster named Mortimer Honkington, Morty for short! He has many siblings, mostly half siblings but has 2 full blooded siblings whom also have beards. I love the fluffy faced breed.

My favorite aspects of raising chickens is honestly seeing their silly personalities and what breeding outcomes you get from cross-breeding. I do not care much for eggs except when incubating them. I am on the autism spectrum, high functioning and once I became obsessed with chickens that was it for me. I already never shut up about chickens!

My other hobbies include video gaming, writing, reading, and watching true crime. I do struggle to understand things at times but my therapist chalks that up to the autism.

My grandparents raise chickens as well and are also relatively new to raising them and caring for them. In fact I incubated and hatched chicks for our flock before I relocated. In May, we hatched 6 but only 5 lived. In August we incubated 8, and only one hatched (hot summer days...don't incubate during hot summers. Learned that the heartbreaking way) I have no current occupation as I have some minor health issues but I aim to learn more about chickens and wish to eventually start my own chicken paradise. I also wish to know if continuing my rooster’s bloodline is a good idea or not.

As for when I found this community, I have arrived on and off as a logged out guest when doing my research for chicken related illnesses or disabilities, and finally yesterday I decided I would make an account and so here I am today! I hope to learn more from you all as I am an amateur and wish to better care for my weak legged rooster and hopefully learn if he has a future to have hens.

I may have used the template to help me with the intro but I am happy to be here! Sharing a picture of my sweet roo for tax :)
