You mentioned it was winter - are you an aussie? We have a large aussie community on BYC - the more the merrier. There is also a thread called "Australia - six states and one funny little Island."

Grateful to find you all! Aloha from Maui. We are researching feed for our 3,000 chickens for Hoku Nui Maui, LLC. (Watch our progress on Facebook). I need to know what to supplement their grazing, bug and weeds and grasses diet with that might give them tender meat after egg laying, when we slaughter them HUMANELY at 18 months.

I am so happy to be embarking on a demonstration farm of 260 acres, so we can all agree to end the cruelty to chickens everywhere. It is just too sad to me.

I was so moved by the film FOOD, Inc. because it showed factory torture of animals used for food. Our animals will have the BEST lives. I made a video of my 15 chickens a few years ago, when they were happy free ranging on Maui. I no longer live at that place or have those chickens, but this was a great year of my life, sharing breakfast every day with my chickens! Search: "KLARITY POE" to see my 3 - minute video.
