I am wondering - Do the eggs of different breeds of chickens taste any different? I know that different breeds have different colors, but I have never really tasted a difference in the white eggs and brown eggs in the grocery store for example.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Diet may affect egg taste, but the breed of the chicken shouldn't. Hatchery Easter Eggers are usually quite nice birds, have not found them to be a problem in mixed flocks... they are pretty much like the regular heavy brown egg layers. (

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. I've raised almost all of the breeds on your list over the past 50 years, and for quiet, affectionate chickens, Orpingtons, Australorps, and Sussex can be beaten. My children made lap pets of all three of these breeds. If eggs are a priority, Australorps are the best layers on your list. An Australorp holds the brown egg laying record with 364 eggs in 365 days, and while none of my Australorps have never reached that rate of lay (and likely never will), I've still had a few of them lay over 300 eggs in a year. Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's (pictured in my avatar) favorite hens. She loves their colored eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can.
