It is mostly pecking order (I believe). Once we had to cull the Cornish Cross Rooster and pullet, the 10 RIR girls went nuts for about 2 weeks. Squabbling and taking forever to go up into the Coop loft. We introduced the 2 Leghorns and 2 Silkies ("the outcasts") to them prior to the cull of the Cornish Cross. The Outcasts were sleeping on the lower level of the coop with the Cornish Roo and Pullet, now it is an all day bullying of The Outcasts by the RIRs. They don't bring blood or even peck them too often (because The OUtcasts run from them) but it's like, "Lets have fun picking on the outcasts today" by the RIRs. The Leghorns so bad want to join the RIRs in the Coop Loft, but the RIRs run them out and when they actually don't, it's because it is dark and the Leghorns hide right in between them so we take them out, because when the sun comes up and they see them it could be really bad. Last night one of the Leghorns was on the roost with the RIRs when I went to shut the coop down for the night. I had a head lamp on and when those mean girls saw the Leghorn, they started pecking her head and tail. I felt so bad for her. She just sat there and hunkered down and was letting them. We got her out of there.

The flies bite my husband terribly. We have found a concoction of Lavender Oil and Johnson's Baby Oil Gel keeps everything away (but the dirt). Nice to meet you. I'm sure SC is lovely.Greetings, and welcome!
