My grandparents got me my first chickens at age 4, and I have been raising them for the great majority of my life. I have decades of experience with them. Have raised Leghorns (White, Light Brown, Dark Brown, and Black), Plymouth Rocks (White, Barred, and Partridge), Buff Orpingtons, Black Jersey Giants, Rhode Island Reds, Production Reds, Silver Spangled Hamburgs, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Americanas, and Game chickens. I also have over 20 years of raising guinea fowl. Some of my birds were rescued birds. Also raised ducks for a short time and had a rescued show pigeon.
