Hi Everyone,
While most women may have asked for jewelry for Christmas; I asked for a chicken coop! I got it! I'm a city dweller and avid gardener and I have been wanting to get a few chickens. Our city ordinance changed and now I can have up to 6 hens. I am reading and watching videos while deciding which breed(s) I want. Starting from scratch is daunting but I am very excited. Our plan (me and my husband of 37 years) is to prepare the coop and yard with the intent to order chicks around March. I can't wait to interact and learn from and with this community!

Welcome. I would start with three hens since minimum and wait till they age and production drops before getting three more. That should provide you with a dozen a week. This keeps them laying at a :welcome rate you can handle.
