(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I rescued my first chickens in May of 2020. Someone had got their children 2 baby turkeys and 3 baby chicks for Easter last year and didnt think about how big they would get or how much room they needed. They were going to put them all down until I told them I would take them. They turkeys were very tame but the chickens took a few months to start trusting me, I honestly think they kept the chickens in the tote that they brought them to me in. I then got 11 chicks in November to grow my flawk. Sadly in February we had a coop fire and lost 9 of the chicks. My adults and 2 of the chicks made it out of the fire safely.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 7 that we keep in the fence. I also have 9 ducks that are free range and live down at the pond.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm not sure what breeds I have. I do know one of my 17 week old chicks is a Rhode Island Red, but the other 3 hens, the rooster, and turkeys I'm not sure what they are.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Watching them grow has been my favorite. We are currently rebuilding after our coop fire and as soon as everything is settled down and we have everything situated we will be adding a few more to our flawk. I also like how they will just hang around me when I'm outside. They have to be right beside me and they want my attention. The turkeys are practically attached to my legs when I'm outside.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Other than taking care of the birds, I am on a bowling league, I also like gardening, hunting, fishing, mud bogging, and riding. I like anything outdoors for the most part. Another hobby is cleaning up our property to how we want it. There was an old dairy barn that was falling in and a pond that was overgrown when I got the 30 achres. We have cleaned the pond up, built new building and a home and we have so much more that we want to accomplish to make our property how we want it.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My fiance and I live together. We do not have any children of our own yet. We also have 6 cats, 3 fish, and a dog named Lily. Lily loves going to check on all the birds. Her favorite thing is going down to the pond with me.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I was looking up turkey molting. My turkeys are both hens and they are almost a year old and they started molting a few days ago. I was trying to find out if it was normal to molt this time of year or if it was because of the coop fire last month. Henry is molting the worst and it's still a little cold outside so I was trying to find out what all I needed to do to ensure they were being taken care of properly.
