[Chicago Hens]

Hello everyone. I've had chickens for almost three years now. I have a small backyard flock of 4 hens. Two of the girls are around 20 months old, while the other two are older and we don't know their actual ages (they came with our house - it's a story). Apart from the eggs, my favorite thing about chicken keeping is how much my young kids love playing with them, chasing them, feeding them, and just having fun with them. I've been a lurker on BYC for a long time but I joined because I have a question. My younger hens are due for their first adult molt but it isn't happening. Should I be concerned? They don't get supplemental light or heat and are entirely outdoor birds.

You chickens will molt when they are ready to molt. Also, they might have a mini molt that might involve losing a few feathers that you may not notice. Enjoy your flock.!

If they did I sure didn't notice. Egg production really hasn't dropped off much either.

That's a good thing! Count your blessing's on that, and hope that they don't have a hard molt next year.
