I’ve been a backyard chicken keeper for over ten years. My city limits flock to six hens but I have eight. Had to get rid of cocoa Marans-too noisy. My hens go broody so I’ve raised chicks the easy way by putting fertile eggs or new chicks under them at night. About one half are purebred and the rest mixes of Unknown parentage. Have had several die of old age, And a few from mystery diseases. No predator problems. Free range in large fenced yard during day and secure house at night. I do have a rat problem though!
