Hello! I've been lurking around your forums picking up tips and advice for a few months now. With the expansion of my feathered family this week (1 new chicken and 4 quail) I thought I should bite the bullet and sign up!

I'm currently living in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia and have three chickens (Bantam - Leghorn, Bantam - Silver Penciled Wyandotte, Cross - ISA Brown) and four quails (Kingx2, Japx2). They live in the Fort Knox of chicken coops built by my owner (I rent) so that they would have somewhere safe to sleep at night - safe from the neighborhood cats. I'm currently experimenting with different (all unsuccessful) ways to keep the ******** out of my yard.

In the next few months I'm looking to expand my quail ownership until I have a small quail army to use for eggs and meat. Reading the forums here has encouraged me to think about hatching my own rather then buying birds one at a time.

Thanks everyone for such an amazing resource - I look forward to loosing many hours here!

Cheers, Miss Mal.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your quail project!

Live traps work good for not hurting them. We put some wet cat food or tuna in it. To bait them in. You would want one for a coon. Most feed store have them. Ace/ tractor supply. Hope this was of some help
