(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are totally new to chickens and ducks. We are planning on getting chickens and ducks in about 2 weeks.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
0
(3) What breeds do you have?
We are planning on getting 4 - 6 ducks (including possibly 1 drake) in total. 2-4 Ancona ducks (maybe one drake) 2 Cayuga ducks. My wife would like chickens also. I don't have any ideas of what hens I should look into that might do well living with Ducks.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We love caring for and growing things. We feel like this a good next step in growing our "homestead."
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Organic Gardening, fishing, hunting, roadside vegetable stand, entertaining.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have 4 young kids (8, 5, 3, & 1) 2 dogs and a rabbit. Both my wife and I work from home. I am a Financial Advisor and she is a Doula and Photographer. We have a very large garden, grow a lot of our own food and for the neighborhood.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC looking for information about keeping ducks and chickens saw how great it was and how nice the people are and asked to join the same day.
