I'm new to chicks and homesteading but it's coming along. I hatched 20 chicks from 41 eggs this weekend. Learned a lot.

Trying to have dual purpose chickens all year round not storing much but on demand as my family has done on (all grandparents and spouse families). Hatching with broody chickens hopefully.

Currently have 20 new chicks from Sat & Sun Hatch from these breed eggs:
16 eggs @ Buckeye
16 eggs @ Salmon Faverolles
9 eggs @ White Cochin

Tried to have dual-purpose, winter-hardy, pro-broody, friendly.

Helped 2 eggs hatch. A third chick (the oldest from incubator) has a lame foot I'm treating from various videos/forum advice (eating and drinking okay). All the toes, on one foot, are extremely spread out and not really used except as a crutch. I made a pad to try to calm the muscles down. Will try to strengthen with standing therapy (in a hammock or cup next).

Also have pigs and looking to diversify to maybe rabbits &/or goats. We'll see....

Hello! Welcome to BYC! Have fun with your chicken adventure!

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I'd pick up some liquid B-complex. 1/4 dropper full either to the beak or in a small amount of mash, once a day. If you happen to have some already in the pill form, 1/4 of a tablet crushed in a small amt of mash or just try to get it to take it. I have a 4-day old chick like yours right now that's being a bugger to cure.

We're glad you're here.
