Hi Everyone,

I have enjoyed the information from this site for a while, but I have a problem I need help with. I have an almost 4 week old Serama that has been doing this thing where it looks like he is trying to swallow and makes a clicking noise. Today, I noticed that he is looking a little lethargic. I have separated him from the rest of the chicks. I need help! What can I do to save him? He is my favorite!

Thank you!

I am not an expert but it sounds like gape worms are a possibility. You might do a search on the forum while you arewaiting for responses.

Thank you! This is our first time raising chicks, and we have already lost one. :(

A bit too young for gape worm. Could be respiratory. You might try some antibiotics in the water...Duramycin or Oxytetracycline. You can get the Dura at most feed stores. Use it for about 10 days to see if this bird heals.

Good luck with your babies. I hope you can get them healed soon.

I had a chick doing the same thing acting like she couldn't get something down her throught. I picked her up and tried massaging her neck area lightly with my index finger, of coarse she freaked out and so I left her alone as to not stress her out more. She is doing fine now but after about a week she has started that clicking sound again.
