Hi I’m Barbie, a new member.

I inherited two 13 month old chickens (owners moved), an Australorp and a Rhode Island Red (possibly mixed).

I'm new at chickens and their care, but loving it.

My 7 year old next door niegbhor fell in love with the chickens. So they got two new (about 5 weeks old ) chicks for him, Buff Orpington's

The intent is to merge the four into one back yard flock.

But today one of the chicks ate my pearl post earring! Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

happy to be here,

Barbiee

Hello, Barbiee, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Oh boy! That's never good. Hopefully it will pass.
So now you know: NO earrings around chickens! They will pluck them right out of your ears. And you really shouldn't allow them that close to your face as they like to investigate shiny things...like eyeballs.

What was the earring made of besides pearl? I had a duckling take a sterling silver earring out of my ear and swallow it just to see a day later she had shiny poops!

Not much you can do at this point. Say goodbye to the earring - the pearl will probably get digested, the post will hopefully pass at some point.

I do wear jewelry around my chickens but I don't let them around my head/face and I usually have big earrings, so a chicken would be hard pressed to swallow it.
