Hello!

Well, the copied questions didn’t transfer, so here goes! This Friday (hopefully) I’ll get my first flock. I’m hoping to get 3 Barred Plymouth Rock chicks to raise in my backyard. I never take on a new pet until I’ve researched it to make sure I don’t unintentionally kill it, and BYC has been a wonderful source that has given me the info I need. The experience and helpfulness of this group is amazing, and I hope to keep learning! My chicken math is easy: 3 is all I can reasonably care for until we move to a larger property. The brooder is ready & my husband, adult son & I will be building a very simple 4x8 coop/covered run the next few weekends. I also hope to build a PVC/hardware cloth “tractor” so the chickens can safely forage and stretch their legs (we have a family of hawks close, not to mention foxes, coyotes, and outdoor cats). It remains to be seen whether I’ll be comfortable leaving the chickens out in the tractor without my being 2 feet away from them at all times lol. Maybe I’ll add a chair and sun umbrella into the tractor design! Looking forward to reading and “talking” with y’all! Nellzmom in NC.
