My name is Vanessa, and this is my first brood. I moved out onto a half acre, and told my boyfriend I wanted some chickens (guess I wanted to dive head first into country life!). Six months later, they're here, and so far it's been interesting.
I really wanted barred rocks. I liked the temperament and production. I picked them up from my local feed store (they're really wonderful there!) and they were going on 3 weeks. I figured less time dealing with chick stuff would make things a little easier.
I only ended up with three barred rocks, my boyfriend picked out a RIR, and I picked out another pretty brown one, but I forgot the breed (I even created a thread hoping someone could identify my chicks, so if you can help...). I'm really very excited to see how they change as they grow. Also, I'm pretty sure one of my barred rocks is a rooster. Assuming that is a rooster and it's the only one, I'll probably keep him. I originally didn't intend to have a rooster, but since it's here...
I spent a lot of time researching, but I learn new things all the time. I look forward to all the interesting chicken experiences!
