wow, it's been a while since I've had a chance to check in. The chickens are sort of in their "yard" however, they are very good at escaping. We have regular, routine Chicken Herding activities to get them back in their pens, and we make sure that there is plenty of fresh water out for the escapees.
The Danes met the chickens once when the chickens were still in the house, in the dog crate. That meeting did not go so very well, as the Danes were trying to figure out how to get into the crate. They've seen the chickens multiple times since the chickens have moved outside. Fiona, my brown spotted fawnequin Dane, has figured out rather quickly that chickens just might taste good, so she stalks them. Moira, the black spotted Harlequin Dane, just jumps up and down at the end of the leash, trying to get them to play. We now maintain minimum safe distance between the chickens and the Danes.
Once I figure out how to post pictures (Shouldn't take me very long, just need to find the time to do it), I will post them. I also have videos of Dogs Meeting Chickens.
